galerii galerii

galerii galerii is a travelling contemporary art gallery founded in the spring of 2016. The gallery in a van hosts solo exhibitions by young international artists and the shop next to it sells contemporary art at an affordable price. This season’s last exhibition is “Nähdäkseni sinut” – a solo project by young Finnish photo artist Johanna Heikkilä (1986). Her works emphasise the act of looking and through it seek to embrace the essence of photography. They are attempts to perceive love, being, longing and everything momentary.

In the context of a travelling art gallery the purely human content of her works becomes the key. A gallery bus popping up all over regional Estonia inevitably has an educational task to carry out. An exhibiting institution that visits local events – fairs, festivals and village dances – can’t expect their public to have extensive knowledge of conceptual photography. In Heikkilä’s works the seemingly cold minimalism of contemporary photography is intertwined with personal stories of family and love, thus giving each interested visitor something to hang on to.
