Haus gallery

Haus Gallery represents high-level professional art in Estonia. The artists presented by the gallery are renowned in the local art scene and also have an international presence. Haus Gallery features works from throughout the history of Estonian art, from the end of the 19th century to the present day. At this year’s Photographic Art Fair the gallery will present, similarly to last year, works by Herkki-Erich Merila.

Herkki-Erich Merila is a valued fashion photographer, known as an excellent creator of still-lifes and conceptual photo collages. He has exhibited worldwide since 1984 and since 1992 belongs to DeStudio, an artistic group regarded as the importer of contemporary photography in Estonia. At the Photographic Art Fair the audience can see his new, black and white series in large format from Chongqing, a relatively unknown megapolis in China. The quite dark series, with a depressing undertone, perhaps even respiratively heavy, explores the explosiveness of the urban space side by side with demographical, environmental and ideological developments.

During the audience programme of the fair, Haus Gallery’s partner Uus Stuudio will present an illustration technique based on photography. Madis Põldsaar, the designer of the studio, who is also recognised by Adobe, will conduct a graphical workshop where he will introduce his working methods step-by-step.
